Have a look at some suggestions below.
People often ask me questions during my Mandarin classes or workshops.
Have a look at some of those questions and my feedback. I will be happy to know what you think…
What’s the best way of learning Mandarin?
Is there really the best way of learning a language? The best approach for one person may not necessarily work for you. It very much depends on the individual, his or her general language learning experience, and even some talent degree.
For most beginners it is recommended to start the learning process with a help of a professional teacher. It is important that you build up your language foundation. In order to learn Mandarin, you need to have a clear understanding of its structure, basic grammar and pronunciation. Only this way you can develop your fundamental linguistic know-how.
Another important aspect about a language learning process is that it cannot be done by force. You have to be enthusiastic about it. Why do you want to learn it? What motivates you? It is important that you have clear answers to those questions.
Engaging students in learning Mandarin, enlightening them about Chinese culture and civilization – is an important part of a teacher’s role. It matters for their overall language and cultural skills development and contributes to passionate approach towards the entire learning process.
How long does it take people to start a conversation in Chinese?
There is no certain answer to this question. It depends on how much time and effort you put in learning Chinese. It’s not that hard to start a conversation if you are a persistent learner. Most students should be able to have a simple discussion within 3-6 months, some even after 2 months of the course’s start. However, in order to become fluent, a live practice with a native speaker is crucial. Therefore it is important to have it as a part of a language class.
Is the immersion study program efficient enough ?
Language Immersion Program or a home hosting program has been promoted by many countries. It aims to improve language learning process in its native environment. This type of programs are beneficial for people who have already got some new language foundation or they take intensive course as a part of the Immersion Program. Otherwise, the results might not be very impressive.
How to choose a good teacher?
Prime recommendation is to choose a teacher with professional qualifications and experience.
Besides that, there are some other aspects that are important to consider, e.g. teaching style, how the teacher helps you to achieve your learning objectives, how she or he engages you in the learning process. A good teacher should motivate and guide you into the right direction and adapt the entire methodology towards your individual needs. Only this type of approach will inspire you to move further.
In the end, you will be able to measure the efficiency of the entire teaching methodology by your personal achievements after a certain time frame.
